Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Transport - Nights

Children's Nebraska seeks a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our dedicated neonatal transport team. In this role, you will manage the care and transport of neonates from referring facilities using fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and critical care ground ambulances throughout Nebraska and surrounding states. You will work collaboratively with flight nurses and emergency medical technicians to provide state-of-the-art neonatal care in diverse situations with unique logistical challenges.

Clinical Setting

Children's Hospital of Nebraska is a free-standing hospital with over 75 years of service providing exceptional care to children nationwide. Our 52-bed Level 4 NICU supports our CAMTS-accredited transport team. We operate four ground ambulances and utilize dedicated air assets including an EC130 helicopter and a Pilatus PC-12 fixed-wing aircraft.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using an advanced nursing process
• Manage neonatal transport from referring facilities to receiving hospitals
• Demonstrate proficiency in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, and emergency procedures
• Perform technical skills including lab and x-ray interpretation, intubation, line placement, thoracentesis, thoracotomy, and intraosseous access
• Accurately document patient responses and outcomes
• Collaborate with physicians and referral teams to deliver outstanding patient care
• Demonstrate strong leadership through nursing judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
• Advocate for patients and families while maintaining professional conduct and communication
• Ensure cost-effective resource utilization with knowledge of healthcare economics

Schedule

• Full-time night shift position
• 12-hour shifts, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• 15% stipend for nocturnist/night shift work

Required Qualifications

• APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska as required by the Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division
• Minimum 3 years of critical care experience as a Critical Care RN, Critical Care APRN, or combination of both
• Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (APRN, PA, or RN)
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 180 days of hire
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 180 days of hire
• NNP-BC (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certified) or CPNP-AC (Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care) upon hire
• DEA License within 30 days of hire
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record
• Satisfaction of all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional credentialing
• Weight of 225 lbs or under at time of hire due to aircraft weight and balance requirements
• Ability to work in an environment involving ambulance, helicopter, and airplane patient transport with exposure to non-conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes, and extreme heat/cold

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous advanced practice provider experience in pediatrics
