The opportunity

Job Description

Penn State Health Children's Hospital is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner – Critical Care Intensivist to join the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine team in the Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This is the only Level IV NICU in central Pennsylvania and serves a diverse population including extremely premature infants, those with general and specialized surgical disorders, multiple anomalies including genetic disorders, complex congenital heart disease, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy requiring therapeutic hypothermia, and conditions requiring ECMO or advanced surgical interventions.

You will be an integral member of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team that includes 20 Advanced Practice Clinicians, 6 Neonatal Fellows, 13 Neonatal Attendings, rotating Pediatric Residents, Respiratory Therapists, Dieticians, Pharmacists, Care Coordinators, Social Workers, and other dedicated professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for critically ill neonates using advanced clinical judgment
  • Work with a wide degree of autonomy within the scope of the collaborative agreement
  • Work closely with attending neonatologists, fellows, residents, and other healthcare providers to deliver exceptional neonatal care
  • Educate and mentor nurses, students, and residents
  • Participate in 24/7 in-house coverage to ensure seamless, continuous care
  • Optimize patient outcomes and reduce length of stay
  • Support family-centered care

Clinical Setting

  • Level IV NICU in central Pennsylvania
  • Academic Medical Center
  • Four-time Magnet-designated hospital
  • Level 1 Regional Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center

Schedule

  • Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
  • Varied shifts including 10, 12, 16, and 24-hour shifts
  • 24/7 in-house coverage participation required

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a Critical Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Minimum of one (1) year CRNP experience (which could include clinical rotations or relevant clinical experience in applicable specialty)
  • Currently licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners
  • National certification as an advanced practice nurse
  • Knowledge of appropriate critical care
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in a Level III or IV NICU
  • Strong clinical skills in high-acuity neonatal care
