Beacon Health System seeks a Manager of School Nurse Program to oversee all operations and staff of the South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) school nurse program. In this leadership role, you will ensure the delivery of quality health care services to students while maintaining compliance with Indiana Administrative Code and established policies and procedures. You will report to the Director of Professional Services & Business Development and function as the Health Services Coordinator for the district.
Responsibilities
- Manage all facets of the SBCSC school nurse program, including staff selection, hiring, and scheduling to ensure quality care delivery
- Conduct skills validation for all school nurses upon hire and annually
- Plan, coordinate, and provide ongoing training for staff, ensuring comprehensive orientation for new team members
- Ensure team members fulfill responsibilities according to established policies and procedures
- Model expected behaviors and hold associates accountable for demonstrating these behaviors
- Prepare and conduct performance reviews; coach, counsel, and initiate disciplinary action as warranted
- Conduct school visits to assess compliance with policies and practices and ensure quality of care
- Conduct meetings and maintain required records, reports, and files
- Coordinate ongoing education for school nurses and provide health education to students and staff as needed
- Communicate regularly with school nurses regarding operational procedures and updated information
- Act as liaison between school nurses and principals regarding discipline, process improvement, and related matters
- Serve as a resource for principals, parents, and staff throughout the corporation
- Investigate and provide follow-up responses to complaints, unusual occurrences, incident reports, and other issues related to care and service
- Work with SBCSC to develop and implement policies, procedures, and guidelines for student health programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies
- Collect, compile, and analyze data required for mandatory state screening reports and monthly communicable disease and immunization reports
- Serve as liaison between Beacon Health System, SBCSC, and public health and welfare agencies regarding students in the corporation
- Work with community leaders, health-related groups, and social services organizations to advocate for and implement health promotion and disease prevention programs
- Prepare and submit periodic operational reports to leadership
- Assist in developing the school nurse program budget and administer it to ensure financial targets are met
- Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are available for staff use and maintain related records
- Follow Beacon Health System and Beacon Health System established policies and procedures; make recommendations to the Director as appropriate
- Function as a school nurse when necessary due to staffing issues
- Meet regularly with associates to share information and address questions and concerns
- Develop and maintain quality improvement plans to ensure exceptional customer experiences
- Interact in a positive, proactive, and cooperative manner when providing information, seeking assistance, and resolving problems
- Communicate with the Director regarding potential problems in a timely manner
- Participate on committees as requested
- Complete other job-related assignments and special projects as directed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN license to practice in the State of Indiana
- Three to five years of related health care experience in nursing education, public health, community nursing, pediatrics, or home health
- Current CPR certification
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record

- Prior management or supervisory experience

- Organization skills necessary to plan, develop, implement, and monitor operations and develop effective policies and procedures
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills necessary to gather and interpret data, prepare reports, and solve problems
- Interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to interact effectively with principals, students, families, and community members
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and ensure ongoing rapport and support
- Proficiency in computer skills including email, word processing, and spreadsheets
Working Conditions
- Works in an office or school environment
- Travel within the SBCSC district is required
- Will assume on-call responsibilities
- Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Available to work overtime and additional or other shifts and schedules when required
