Jackson West Medical Center's Operating Room is seeking a Medical Surgical Attendant to join the surgical services team on a full-time day shift basis. In this role, you will assist nursing and surgical professional staff in providing patient care and maintaining a safe, clean surgical environment.
You will work under the direction of the nursing staff, shift supervisor, and director of nursing to support the operating room, labor and delivery, recovery rooms, and prep areas.
Responsibilities
- Clean surgical services department areas, including operating rooms, labor and delivery rooms, recovery rooms, and prep rooms between cases
- Assist nursing staff in obtaining equipment for surgical services areas
- Transport patients as needed
- Keep patients informed of their medical condition and course of treatment
- Provide and modify patient care and patient/family education using a systematic process
- Demonstrate service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise)
- Perform additional related job duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- 0 to 3 years of related experience
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with at least 6 months validity at time of hire
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment
- Knowledge and skill in use of job-appropriate technology and software applications
- Must meet and maintain all unit-specific and organizational skills, competencies, certifications, and licensures as required by the nursing area
Physical Requirements
- Extended standing or walking required
- Ability to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds
- Ability to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices
- Frequent visual acuity for extended computer use
Working Environment
- Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure and emergent situations
- Frequent interaction with diverse populations including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies, and the public
- Inside environmental conditions with occasional outdoor exposure
- Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X-ray, and chemical exposures common to hospital and medical office environments
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required when exposed to infectious or clinical hospital environments
