Medical Office Licensed Practical Nurse - Orthopedic Assoc.

Southern Ohio Medical Center's Orthopedic Associates department is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide clinical support in a medical office setting. Working under the supervision of the Office Manager, Office Supervisor, and/or Family Health Center Manager, you will assist providers with patient examinations and procedures while managing essential clinical and administrative tasks.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an orthopedic medical office environment, supporting providers with patient care and procedures. The role involves direct patient interaction, clinical documentation, and coordination with the healthcare team to meet patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, venipuncture, and diagnostic testing
• Collect and document patient vitals, chief complaints, pain assessments, and medical, family, and social histories
• Phone and e-prescribe medications to pharmacies; handle failed and error electronic prescriptions with provider direction
• Make referrals and contact insurance companies to obtain necessary authorizations and pre-certifications
• Operate medical equipment and perform patient education
• Conduct monthly inspections of supplies and medications to assess expiration dates and dispose of expired items per policy
• Ensure clinical supplies are properly stocked
• Review charts for next-day appointments
• Log and update medication lists for patients
• Assist with answering phones, scheduling appointments, and scanning documents
• Pre-clean, decontaminate, and transport contaminated instruments according to policy
• Perform intermediate-level and high-level disinfection of scopes and probes per manufacturer instructions
• Ensure patient care areas are cleaned after each patient visit per facility guidelines
• Conduct daily checks of AED equipment, weekly equipment check-offs per department policy, and monthly eye wash checks
• Perform daily document imports and follow medical record documentation procedures
• Assist providers in navigating the medical record and document clinical services on behalf of the provider
• Cross-train to perform Medical Office Assistant duties
• Follow vaccine and medication management policies
• May provide coverage in other areas of the Foundation offices
• Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or successful completion of an equivalent high school exam
• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
• Active LPN license (applicable to state)
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• One to three months of experience

You must be able to perform the following technical and motor skills: copying, calibrating equipment, speaking clearly, answering telephones, fine dexterity, precise manipulations, keyboarding, and handling and gripping.

Physical requirements include carrying, lifting, and transferring patients (occasionally lifting in excess of 100 pounds and frequently carrying 50 pounds), pushing, pulling, communicating, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, holding, ambulating, walking, and restraining.

Mental requirements include calculating, interpreting numbers, analyzing, assessing, evaluating, explaining, teaching, attention to detail, memory, and reasoning.

Sensory requirements include seeing, hearing, feeling, and verbalizing.

You will be exposed to fumes and odors, potentially dangerous equipment, toxic materials, body fluids, blood, tissue, and sharps.
