Eagle Park Community School seeks a School Nurse to fill a maternity leave position starting in December or January. This is a contract position for the school year, responsible for the medical and safety concerns of students and staff within the school.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a school environment serving medically fragile students, collaborating with school staff, medical professionals, and families to support student health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Maintain medical records of students and obtain pertinent medical data required by the State Board of Health, including immunizations, vision screening, scoliosis screening, and hearing screening reports
- Provide this medical information to receiving schools as needed
- Ensure students entering the program have required immunizations and obtain needed medical information on all students
- Prepare required biannual reports and send information to the State Board of Health and local health departments with Dean of Student approval
- Interpret and provide medical information to appropriate staff and provide special training related to students' medical needs
- Observe students experiencing health-related problems and report to physicians, Dean of Students, and parents
- Provide skilled nursing assistance to medically fragile students, including catheterization, suctioning, oral feeding tube insertions, glucose testing, and assistance with developing Individualized Health Plans
- Distribute medications, maintain medication records, and inform staff of medication side effects and administration methods, including during field trips
- Provide yearly training, in-servicing, and certification to school staff, serviced schools, and parents regarding special needs and universal precautions
- Evaluate and provide for medical needs of students and staff in emergency situations
- Contact parents regarding student illness, extended absences, and personal hygiene concerns
- Notify direct supervisor of problems relating to health, safety, and medical needs
- Provide health and safety programs for students
- Requisition and distribute safety precaution supplies and equipment
- Work with staff, students, and families in a professional manner
- Requisition and maintain medical and office supplies and equipment
- Complete yearly inventory of all equipment and supplies
- Remain current on issues in the medical field relating to student medical needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Valid license as a Certified Nurse or Registered Nurse
- At least three years of experience with medically fragile patients
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, medical professionals, and parents
Schedule
Contract for school year with hours determined by Board of Managers. All working terms and conditions of employment are established by the Board of Managers.
