Join the Acute Care for Elders Unit (ACE) at UAB Hospital-Highlands as a Licensed Practical Nurse providing care to post-surgical and geriatric patients. This 26-bed acute care unit, the first of its kind in Alabama and nationally recognized for geriatric care, serves patients transferred from the emergency department, ICU, or admitted from physician offices. You will work within an interdisciplinary care team trained in geriatrics to deliver holistic, compassionate care to acutely ill older adults.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and hospital policies and procedures
  • Collect patient assessment data and notify the RN of potential problems
  • Evaluate patient response to care and report findings to the RN
  • Document delivery of patient care accurately and thoroughly
  • Orient patients and family members to the surrounding environment
  • Act as a patient advocate
  • Meet patients' educational needs
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team

The ACE Unit is located at UAB Hospital-Highlands, which combines the feel of a community hospital with the expertise and technology of a flagship academic medical center. UAB Hospital is ranked the No. 1 hospital in Alabama by U.S. News & World Report and is home to the state's first ACS-verified Level I adult trauma center and only Magnet-designated hospital.

Schedule

  • Full-time AM shift

Compensation and Bonuses

  • Pay range: $22.90 - $37.25 per hour
  • $5,000 new hire sign-on bonus available for full-time positions

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent
  • Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment

Additional Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required depending on the unit or department
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required depending on the unit or department
