This full-time position provides clinical and administrative support in a primary care or urgent care setting in Nitro, West Virginia. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will work days and assist healthcare providers in delivering patient care while managing patient flow, registration, discharge, and related clinical duties.
Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Perform vital signs and document medications and drug allergies
- Triage patients based on subjective data
- Collect and prepare specimens for reference lab testing, including venipuncture of adults and children
- Perform point-of-service laboratory testing and quality control procedures
- Perform electrocardiograms and assist with stress testing
- Administer PO, IM, Sub Q, and ID medications as delegated with provider verification of the "five R's"
- Obtain IV access and provide plain fluid infusion
- Perform audiograms, pulmonary function testing, drug screen collections, and nebulizer treatments
- Prepare patients, exam rooms, and equipment for examinations and procedures
- Assist physicians during patient visits and with procedures such as laceration repair, wound dressings, sigmoidoscopies, and other minor procedures
- Gather and document pertinent information in patient records
Administrative and Patient Support
- Greet and register patients using appropriate PC software
- Explain payment policy and insurance coverage prior to registration
- Obtain insurance information and pre-certification when applicable
- Discharge patients from the facility, document charges and payments, and maintain accurate financial data
- Schedule patient appointments
- Transcribe orders legibly and accurately using knowledge of policy, procedures, and legal documentation
- Handle billing, collection, refunding, and communications regarding patient accounts
- Prepare and maintain accurate records for daily summary logs, charges, payments, balances due, statistical reports, billing claims, and daily deposit transactions
- Answer telephones and furnish information according to policy
- Retrieve, photocopy, and file medical records; prepare, review, and process records for completeness and accuracy
- Distribute mail and interdepartmental correspondence
- Communicate information to patients as directed by the provider
- Instruct patients in necessary preparation for diagnostic and therapeutic regimens
- Function as a liaison between provider, patient, and staff to expedite patient flow, quality care, appointment and test scheduling, and referrals
- Sort diagnostic test results by established parameters

Required Qualifications
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
- Completed course in pharmacology
- Post-high school diploma or certificate program with completion of a pharmacology class
