This contract-based, on-site locum position offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive patient care in a hospital medicine setting. You will work alongside experienced physicians and healthcare professionals, providing care to hospitalized patients in a 45-bed unit with low to medium acuity cases. The patient population is primarily elderly, and you will round on approximately 10-12 patients per day, manage about 10 admissions, and handle roughly 2 consults daily. There is no call requirement.

Clinical Setting

You will practice in an acute care hospital environment, collaborating with attending physicians, specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical examinations upon admission and throughout hospitalization
  • Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory results
  • Collaborate with attending physicians, specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals to coordinate patient care
  • Document patient medical histories, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and timely
  • Prescribe medications and administer treatments in accordance with state regulations and hospital protocols
  • Educate patients and their families on diagnoses, treatment options, and post-discharge care plans
  • Respond promptly to patient emergencies and provide appropriate clinical interventions
  • Participate in daily rounds and contribute to multidisciplinary care conferences
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license
  • Board certification as an NP or PA in a relevant specialty
  • Associate-level experience in hospital medicine, inpatient care, or acute care settings
  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective patient and team interaction
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • DEA registration and state prescribing privileges (where applicable)

Schedule

  • 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. shifts
  • 3 to 5 day work blocks
  • No call requirement
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required by contract terms
