This is a contract, on-site locum position for an Associate-level Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in a 20-bed mixed medical-surgical ICU. You will provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill adult patients in a fast-paced clinical environment, working closely with intensivists, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a 20-bed mixed med-surg ICU with an average patient volume of 11 patients per shift. The patient population consists of critically ill adults requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of critically ill patients
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including labs, imaging, and monitoring data
- Perform procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, and intubation assistance as credentialed
- Manage ventilators and provide vent management
- Collaborate with intensivists and multidisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans
- Monitor patient progress and respond to acute changes in condition
- Prescribe and manage medications, including vasopressors and sedatives
- Document patient encounters accurately and timely in electronic medical records
- Communicate with patients' families regarding prognosis, treatment options, and goals of care
- Participate in daily rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making
- Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Provide patient education and support throughout the critical care stay
- Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure continuity of care
Required Qualifications
- Associate-level experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Current and unrestricted NP or PA licensure
- Board certification as an NP or PA
- Experience or clinical training in critical care or acute care settings
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in electronic medical records systems
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to adapt to changing patient needs and schedules
- Willingness to work on-site in Manchester
Licenses and Certifications
- Current and unrestricted NP or PA licensure
- Board certification as an NP or PA
- ALS-CSU certification
- DEA registration
- CSR (Controlled Substance Registration) as required
Schedule
- Night shift: 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- No call required
