The opportunity

Job Description

This is an on-site, contract locum position for an Associate-level Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in cardiology. You will work alongside experienced cardiologists and healthcare professionals in a collaborative, evidence-based practice environment focused on cardiovascular patient care. This role offers the opportunity to build your cardiology portfolio while providing immediate clinical impact in a fast-paced medical practice setting.

Clinical Setting

You will practice at a Level I trauma facility, working with an average daily volume of 6 patients. The clinical environment emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration, patient-centered care, and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical exams focused on cardiovascular health
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiac conditions, including hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, and coronary artery disease
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as ECG, echocardiograms, stress tests, Holter monitors, and laboratory work
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with cardiologists and other healthcare team members
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations, clinical guidelines, and patient needs
  • Educate patients and families on heart-healthy lifestyles, medication management, and disease prevention strategies
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and timely using Epic electronic health records
  • Participate in care coordination, follow-up visits, and discharge planning to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Respond to urgent cardiac situations and provide immediate, evidence-based interventions as needed
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, specialists, and primary care providers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to cardiovascular care
  • Stay current with advances in cardiology practice, guidelines, and technologies

Required Qualifications

  • Active licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Minimum of 2 years of cardiology experience
  • Board certification
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac diagnostics, treatment protocols, and patient management strategies
  • Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary medical team
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, physicians, and support staff
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health records and standard medical documentation practices
  • Flexibility to work on-site in Charlotte and adapt to changing clinical demands in a locum contract role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate-level clinical experience with demonstrated focus in cardiology or a related cardiovascular setting
  • Cardiology-specific experience such as managing heart failure, arrhythmia, or post-cardiac procedure patients

Schedule

  • 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., 7 days on/7 days off
  • No call duties

  • Compensation structured on a yearly interval basis and benchmarked in USD
