The opportunity

Job Description

The Minnesota Department of Corrections seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse/Medical Assistant, Certified (LPN/CMA) to provide healthcare support to incarcerated individuals at the Shakopee facility. This part-time position will be filled at either the LPN or CMA classification level based on the selected applicant's qualifications. You will work rotating day and evening shifts, including weekends and holidays as assigned, with a minimum of 64 hours per two-week pay period.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rooming functions for incarcerated individuals during practitioner examinations, including obtaining and documenting vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight) and patient complaints
  • Perform phlebotomy functions, including collecting blood and urine samples and conducting other tests ordered by practitioners
  • Conduct blood pressure clinics and other chronic care clinics with incarcerated individuals
  • Administer medications as prescribed by practitioners
  • Assist practitioners and Registered Nurses in providing healthcare to incarcerated individuals

Required Qualifications

For Licensed Practical Nurse:

  • Graduation from an approved school of nursing
  • Current Minnesota licensure as a Practical Nurse without limitations or restrictions
  • Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email

For Medical Assistant, Certified:

  • Completion of an approved training program in medical assisting
  • Certification or registration as a medical assistant by passing a national examination
  • Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email

Preferred Qualifications

Schedule

Compensation

  • Licensed Practical Nurse: $28.01 - $35.83 per hour
  • Medical Assistant, Certified: $25.85 - $33.11 per hour

Physical Requirements

  • Pre-placement physical components may be required, including tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance

Additional Requirements

  • Criminal history screening, including predatory offender registration and offender associations review
  • Must pass criminal history check, including successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements
  • Employment history and reference checks will be conducted, including review of incidents of sexual harassment, job performance, and discipline records
  • Fingerprinting required within first 30 days of employment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
