Licensed Practical Nurse- WellMed at S. Main

WellMed, part of the Optum family of businesses, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide clinical support and professional nursing care at our S. Main location. Working under the direction of providers (MD, DO, DPM, NP, or PA) or RNs, you will be an active member of the healthcare team, assessing patient needs, contributing to care planning, and implementing prescribed interventions in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform all nursing duties within the scope of a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse, including procedures, injections, medication administration, EKGs, and phlebotomy as determined by your state board of nursing
• Participate in implementing established education plans for patients and families with common health problems and well-defined learning needs
• Coordinate patient care as directed by providers, RNs, and clinic policies, including referrals, transition visits, medications, procedures, and follow-up
• Document chief complaint and room patients according to policy; prepare patients for examination
• Obtain information telephonically on chief complaint and symptoms and accurately relay information to the provider
• Collect data and perform focused nursing assessments; assist in evaluating patient response to treatment and communicate findings to the provider
• Record patient assessment and care in the medical record accurately and timely
• Review patient records, charts, laboratory and x-ray reports, and other pertinent information prior to provider visits and report relevant findings
• Maintain a safe environment following OSHA standards for patients and staff
• Ensure patient confidentiality (HIPAA) at all times and treat patients with courtesy and respect
• Organize exam and treatment rooms, stock and clean rooms, and sterilize instruments
• Practice standard infection control precautions
• Ensure medication management follows policies and procedures; appropriately document medications and immunizations in patient records
• Follow laboratory management policies, procedures, and CLIA standards; collect lab samples and ensure proper labeling
• Fulfill medication refill requests following approved protocols
• If certified in IV therapy: start peripheral lines, monitor and adjust flow rates, prime IV lines, change dressings on IV sites as needed, and discontinue venous lines
• Perform all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Current and unrestricted state vocational/practical nursing license
• Current BLS certification
• Ability to obtain IV certification if required by the clinic
• Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office procedures
• Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records
• Proven effective listening and communication skills with proper use of grammar and spelling
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Proven ability to perform medical procedures, give injections, and perform phlebotomy
• Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, staff, patients, and the community
• Proven excellent communication and customer service skills
• Tuberculosis screening and proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or doctor's diagnosis of disease

Preferred Qualifications

• IV certification
• 2 or more years of experience in a medical setting
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
• Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 25 pounds of force
• Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and machinery
• Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and in writing
• Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
• Occasional exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly pay ranges from $20 to $36 per hour based on full-time employment and factors including local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
