The opportunity

Job Description

Southeast Missouri Residential Services (SEMORS) is a State of Missouri facility seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct care for consumers with developmental disabilities. This position offers the opportunity to work in a modern office setting with a professional team dedicated to helping consumers live fulfilling lives in their communities.

Clinical Setting

SEMORS is located at 112 Plaza Drive, Sikeston, Missouri. The facility serves individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, mental illness, and geriatric populations.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and prescribed treatments under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or higher-level Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Take and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
  • Perform laboratory draws and observe patients to detect deviations from normal conditions
  • Perform practical nursing duties such as treating pressure sores, changing dressings, providing breathing treatments, inserting catheters, and flushing bladder irrigations
  • Provide bedside care including feeding and personal hygiene assistance
  • Prepare, chart, and review medications according to physician orders and the Medication Administration Record (MAR)
  • Contact the pharmacy regarding prescriptions and verify filled orders
  • Assist Registered Nurses in preparing nursing assessment summaries and implementing health care plans
  • Instruct patients on basic personal health care, including rehabilitative and preventative care
  • Review hospital discharge orders and consult with the primary doctor as needed
  • Attend medical appointments with patients and may transport clients to offsite appointments
  • Complete assessments for injuries, falls, neurology checks, and tube feedings
  • Assist with patient admission process and participate in nursing care planning
  • Apply restraints when necessary
  • Oversee the work of nursing assistants
  • Communicate with doctors, patients, and families regarding patient care
  • Utilize the Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) system
  • Provide training to direct support staff
  • Perform other related work as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Missouri or in accordance with Missouri's Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Knowledge of current nursing theory, practices, and techniques
  • Skill in applying practical nursing principles in the care of persons with physical or mental illness, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or the geriatric population
  • Ability to work assigned schedule which may include a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or required overtime
  • Ability to function in situations requiring a high level of practical nursing skill

Schedule

  • 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Alternating weekends off
