Licensed Practical Nurse - PRN Traveler

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a PRN traveler position to provide direct patient care to acutely ill patients across all age groups, from newborn through geriatric populations. You will coordinate and deliver professional nursing care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, while effectively collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.

Clinical Setting

This position operates within a hospital environment and is classified as a safety-sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Employees in this role are subject to drug testing and disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and act as a patient advocate
• Assume responsibility and accountability for individual knowledge, skill, performance, and behavior in accordance with unit standards of care
• Maintain patient, employee, physician, and corporate confidentiality while respecting the rights, privacy, and property of others
• Demonstrate compliance with infection control guidelines, hospital safety management programs, and proper use of personal protective equipment
• Accurately document nursing care data in the patient care record
• Provide patients, families, and significant others with relevant health care education, instructions, and discharge planning
• Maintain current competency in specialty practices as outlined in the nursing competency program
• Provide leadership and supervision to staff members assigned to patient care
• Assign patient care responsibilities to appropriate team members
• Collaborate effectively with patients, families, significant others, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members
• Participate in the review and revision of nursing policies, procedures, and standards of patient care
• Participate in monitoring and evaluating the quality of care provided
• Present a professional image and caring attitude consistently
• Exercise appropriate judgment and correct techniques in performing procedures, treatments, and drug administration
• Administer IV medications to patients as needed, per hospital policy
• Utilize measures to promote patient, visitor, and personnel safety
• Demonstrate knowledge of disaster and emergency procedures and respond appropriately in emergency situations
• Demonstrate initiative in personal and professional development
• Comply with HIPAA regulatory requirements
• Adhere to the facility's philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures
• Support facility goals and objectives
• Maintain good attendance and follow all facility rules, policies, and procedures
• Maintain open and effective communication with patients, nurses, physicians, peers, supervisors, and students
• Establish and maintain excellent interdepartmental and interpersonal relationships
• Attend departmental meetings and in-services to stay current with departmental and facility developments
• Observe and enforce proper safety measures in techniques used on patients receiving therapy

Required Qualifications

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Oklahoma
• BLS certification required upon hire and maintained throughout employment
• ACLS certification required within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment
• Two years of previous hospital experience
• Previous experience administering IV medications
• Proof of all required licenses and certifications due at time of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Emergency Room experience
• PALS certification

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, you will be regularly required to work inside a clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated environment. You will regularly be required to talk or hear and frequently use hands or fingers to handle, feel, or manipulate objects, tools, or controls. You will occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. You may be exposed to hazards such as radiation, bodily fluids that may contain disease, and fumes from laboratory chemicals.
