Licensed Practical Nurse - Primary Care

Kaiser Permanente is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse for Primary Care at the Castle Rock Medical Offices. This full-time position focuses on patient-centered care in a primary care setting, where you will support physicians and medical providers while delivering direct nursing care to adult patients.

This role is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a primary care medical office environment, supporting physicians and other medical providers in the delivery of patient care and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize patient needs and develop productive relationships with patients and members
• Comply with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures
• Ensure patient safety in medication preparation and administration, including consistent use of the 5 rights and 3 checks; apply asepsis and infection control principles
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment, including identifying malfunctioning equipment
• Support physicians and medical providers by rooming patients, communicating delays, and facilitating provider schedules
• Practice within the scope of practice as defined by licensure, standard nursing practice, knowledge, skill level, and Kaiser Permanente guidelines
• Perform routine and specialized nursing procedures following physician orders and approved nursing care plans, including administering medications orally or by injection and providing specialized care to acutely ill patients
• If IV certified, may perform intravenous therapy as permitted by Colorado State Board of Nursing Chapter IX
• Monitor patient condition by observing, collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data; identify changes in patient condition and report deviations from normal health status, medication reactions, and adverse conditions to the physician, nursing manager, or registered nurse
• Teach and promote preventive health measures to patients and families regarding home health care, medication use, injections, blood pressure monitoring, post-operative care, and diabetic care
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor surgery by preparing patients and rooms for procedures
• Record pertinent patient information in medical charts, including nursing history, physical data, vital signs, symptoms, treatments, medications administered, and reactions
• Assist in orienting and training new employees as assigned
• May perform duties of a nursing assistant or medical receptionist as required
• May assign and coordinate activities for nursing and medical assistants and medical receptionists
• Order, store, and maintain adequate inventory of supplies and instruments
• Demonstrate service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo and organizational initiatives
• Provide culturally sensitive service to colleagues, members, purchasers, contracted providers, and vendors

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program
• Licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Colorado
• Completed a minimum of 400 clock hours of faculty-planned clinical experience and guided learning activities with direct supervision by faculty, associate nursing instructional personnel, or preceptor who is physically present or immediately accessible
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• Basic Life Support certification within 3 months of hire
• Demonstrated customer service focus and exemplary service skills

Preferred Qualifications

• BLS certification at time of hire
• Six months of experience with adults, pediatrics, and/or trauma
• IV therapy certification

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Monday through Friday
• Day shift
• Hours: 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM (full day coverage)
• Travel required: 25% of the time

Compensation and Benefits

• $5,000 sign-on bonus eligible
• May be entitled to translation/bilingual, shift, or other wage premiums as governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement (SEIU Local 105)
