The opportunity

Job Description

Ampersand Therapy is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a part-time, school-based position in Olympia, Washington, for the 2026–2027 school year. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to provide safe, student-centered nursing care while collaborating with school staff and supervising healthcare professionals.

Clinical Setting

This is an in-person, school-based position located in Olympia, WA. You will work part-time at 16 hours per week, with a start date of ASAP.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care in routine and stable clinical situations while recognizing and responding to students' basic healthcare needs
  • Administer medications and treatments as permitted under WAC 246-840-705
  • Implement selected components of nursing care plans as delegated by a Registered Nurse or licensed provider
  • Observe, document, and report changes in students' conditions to supervising healthcare professionals
  • Assist Registered Nurses in complex or rapidly changing clinical situations
  • Maintain compliance with Washington State Board of Nursing standards, infection-control protocols, school district procedures, and organizational policies
  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses, physicians, therapists, educators, families, and support staff to provide coordinated care
  • Complete accurate and timely nursing notes, treatment records, and other required documentation
  • Support students' health, safety, dignity, and ability to participate in their educational programs

Required Qualifications

  • Active Washington State LPN license in good standing under RCW 18.79
  • Graduation from an approved practical nursing program
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Ability to perform nursing duties within the LPN scope of practice established by WAC 246-840-705
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to complete all required fingerprinting, agency onboarding, and district clearance requirements before starting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Washington healthcare settings, including schools, clinics, long-term care, home health, or hospitals
  • Pediatric or school nursing experience
  • Familiarity with Washington State Board of Nursing guidance, including the Scope of Practice Decision Tree
  • Experience supporting diverse populations and providing trauma-informed care

  • Competitive hourly compensation: $37–45/hour
