WellSpan Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for our Outpatient Cardiology department in Adams. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work Monday through Friday on the day shift as part of a collaborative healthcare team providing intermediate-level nursing care in an ambulatory setting.
Clinical Setting
You will work in an outpatient cardiology clinic, functioning as a member of the healthcare team to assist in planning and implementing patient care. Nursing care is provided in accordance with Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing regulations.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history and gather clinical information
- Perform specialized procedures and examinations as ordered and aligned with the Ambulatory Clinical Scope Document, including urinary catheterization and intravenous line insertion (with approved IV certification)
- Ensure patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired supplies and medications
- Sterilize, handle, store, and assess sterility of instruments and equipment as required
- Relay information and facilitate communication between provider and patient
- Reinforce health education, counseling, and advice to patients and families in collaboration with the physician or advanced practice provider
- Assess patient educational needs, identify learning barriers, and use various educational tools to encourage patient adherence
- Evaluate patient health status based on presenting symptoms and follow defined protocols to determine urgency for care
- Track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results to ensure physician/APP verification and patient notification
- Provide education, counseling, and ongoing monitoring regarding diagnostic tests under physician/APP collaboration
- Assist in management of patient care between visits
- Assist in managing patient utilization of the healthcare system and provide education on community resources
- Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, and appointment scheduling for diagnostic and therapeutic services
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of medical treatment
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Document and process prescription requests and refills per physician/APP order or policy
- Serve as a nursing resource for clinical staff
Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy
If requested, you may take a 40-hour face-to-face Introductory Course for Hyperbaric Medicine (recognized by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society) to assist with hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment. After completing required competencies, you may monitor hyperbaric dives as requested. Additional HBO responsibilities include:
- Perform transcutaneous oxygen monitoring testing as ordered and per appropriate policies and procedures
- Perform blood glucose monitoring as ordered and indicated by patient diagnosis
- Administer hyperbaric treatments per the patient's treatment plan and monitor patients during therapy
- Educate patients and families regarding benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of hyperbaric oxygen therapy prior to treatment
- Evaluate patient outcomes and meet with the manager and hyperbaric physician to discuss treatment and adjust as necessary
- Provide assistance in the Wound Center operating only within current clinical licensing scope of practice

Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Associate's degree from an accredited LPN program
- One year of clinical nursing experience
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse license (single state or multi-state) upon hire, OR Active Licensed Registered Nurse license (single state or multi-state) upon hire
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated and dependable
