Licensed Practical Nurse - Nursing Unit Float Pool - Full Time

Corning Hospital is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Nursing Unit Float Pool on a full-time basis. In this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care for assigned patients in collaboration with and under the direction of a Registered Nurse, using a scientific and humanistic focus. You will utilize a holistic systems approach to protect and promote patient wellness and safety while maintaining a patient-centered approach and fostering teamwork.

This position is part of the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the RN regarding the patient's plan of care
• Implement and administer all prescribed testing, medications, and protocols appropriately and in compliance with established standards
• Ensure all pertinent patient and family education has been provided
• Demonstrate age-specific competencies as per unit requirements
• Assist in orientation of new personnel to the department and develop skills of other staff members when requested or appropriate
• Attend workshops, seminars, and in-services to enhance medical knowledge
• Continually review pertinent literature related to new developments within the scope of service
• Complete all assignments scheduled during the shift without sacrificing quality of work
• Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
• Demonstrate good judgment and planning when responding to requests or questions from patients, families, and other healthcare providers
• Respond to assignment changes quickly
• Show good judgment by demonstrating appreciation of cost and quality
• Report any changes in the patient's condition to appropriate personnel
• Evaluate and update the plan of care as indicated
• Refer unsolved problems and consult with appropriate personnel through proper chain of command
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records and exercise complete discretion when discussing patient matters
• Display confidence and respect to patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare workers by performing job duties in a highly professional manner
• Readily assist, supervise, or consult with other staff members when requested or appropriate
• Display positive attitude and working relationships toward all internal and external customers
• Demonstrate flexibility to adjust personal schedules to fluctuating workloads and departmental demands
• Utilize additional time to assist others in the best interests of the department
• Ensure the work environment is safe
• Recognize priorities and deal with them appropriately
• Maintain current patient records and documentation
• Incorporate patient teaching in the plan of care and document patient response
• Report suggestions or recommendations for improvement in department policies, procedures, or operations to the departmental manager
• Assume personal responsibility for ongoing continuing education, in-services, professional development, and learning new procedures
• Accept additional responsibilities and duties related to department operations as permitted
• Demonstrate reliability when on-call and maintain appropriate availability to the hospital
• Arrive on time at the start of scheduled shifts and return promptly after breaks and lunch periods
• Observe hospital dress code, wear identification badge while on duty, and maintain professional appearance at all times
• Document all pertinent patient care information using Standard of Care as a guideline
• Follow Standard Precautions and Infection Control procedures
• Follow hospital safety guidelines and all hospital policies and procedures
• Participate in and actively support performance improvement activities
• Assist patients with bed mobility, transfers, and ambulation with assistive devices utilizing proper body mechanics at all times

Scope Limitations

This position does not include the following procedures:

• Venipuncture (special class)
• Insertion of NG tubes
• Administration of IV push medications
• Verbal or telephone orders
• Administration of blood products

Required Qualifications

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse license in New York
• High ethical standards with respect to discretion and confidentiality
• Ability to conduct yourself professionally at all times
• Ability to assist patients with bed mobility, transfers, and ambulation with assistive devices utilizing proper body mechanics
• Friendly demeanor and team player mentality that fosters a teamwork approach

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $26.84 - $39.49 per hour

Sign-on Bonus: Up to $15,000.00
