Licensed Practical Nurse- Norfolk Veterans' Home

Norfolk Veterans' Home is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse for a part-time position providing direct patient care in a veterans' healthcare setting. This role involves observing, evaluating, and documenting patient behaviors, symptoms, and reactions to medications and treatments. You will respond to patient requests, prepare and administer therapies such as wound dressing and rehabilitation activities, and collect lab specimens as needed.

Responsibilities

• Observe, evaluate, and chart patient behaviors, symptoms, reactions to medications, diet, environment, and patient needs
• Respond to patient calls and requests
• Prepare and administer therapies and treatments including rehabilitation activities, wound dressing, and skin or breathing treatments
• Document care activities in patient medical records
• Collect lab specimens
• Administer medications, chart time and amounts on patient records, and monitor for adverse medication reactions
• Assist or collaborate with Registered Nurses in developing and implementing nursing care plans
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to provide input on patient care planning
• Interpret care and treatment plans to other personnel
• Review charting, evaluate and report patient care to appropriate personnel
• Maintain necessary records
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or physician visits
• Monitor direct care staff and assist in training and education
• Act as assistant to charge nurse when necessary

Schedule

• Part-time, 12-hour shifts
• Day Shift: 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Night Shift: 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Compensation

• Wage: $29.907 to $38.907 per hour
• Base rate: $26.907 to $35.907 per hour plus $3.00 differential for every hour worked
• Additional shift differential: $1.00 to $1.75 per hour

Required Qualifications

• Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska
• Knowledge of Licensed Practical Nursing theory and practice, principles and techniques of patient care and treatments, medication and medication administration procedures and practices, and care and use of medical equipment and supplies
• Ability to evaluate nursing needs and exercise competent judgment
• Ability to evaluate patient behaviors, symptoms, and effects of medications
• Ability to plan and monitor work of direct care staff
• Ability to apply proper body mechanics for heavy lifting
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
• Ability to prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports
• Ability to maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward patients
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull occasionally up to 75 lbs. on a daily basis
• Ability to frequently bend at the waist and neck and frequently twist at the waist
• Ability to walk or stand up to 90% of the shift
• Ability to interact with members and others in a positive manner and be flexible to meet changing demands of the job
