Licensed Practical Nurse Nephrology * $5,000 Sign-On Bonus *

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our nephrology team in a fast-paced medical office setting. You will provide quality patient care, administer medications and treatments under provider direction, and serve as a key member of the healthcare team coordinating care with patients, families, and caregivers.

Clinical Setting

This position operates in a high-traffic, fast-paced medical office environment. You may be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, bodily fluids, and other conditions common to a clinic setting. The role may require working irregular hours and travel to other office locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide general nursing care to patients and administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards under provider direction
• Greet patients and prepare them for provider examination and treatment, including taking patient histories, vital signs, and height and weight measurements
• Screen patients for appropriate information and observe, record, and report patient condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to the provider
• Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests
• Screen and prioritize patient telephone inquiries concerning medical care, prescription refills, insurance authorizations, and referrals; record information in patient chart
• Assist with preparation of equipment and assist the provider during treatment, examination, and testing of patients
• Perform and document various tests and procedures as directed by the provider
• Document patient information, test and examination results, and care provided in the patient's paper or electronic health record
• Evaluate and respond appropriately to urgent emergency situations
• Instruct patients on self-care and interpret provider instructions
• Contact patients to relay test results and care instructions according to provider direction
• Review laboratory results and other patient information
• Prepare and ensure exam rooms are properly stocked; disinfect and sterilize instruments and equipment
• Using the Electronic Health Record, document and bill for services rendered
• Coordinate patient referrals, appointments, testing, and admissions to other facilities
• Call pharmacies with patient prescriptions according to provider instructions and protocol
• Participate in quality improvement activities and processes
• Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
• Pennsylvania Practical Nurse License
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years
• Knowledge of practical nursing principles and skills needed to provide quality patient care and treatment, including examination, diagnostic and treatment procedures, medication effects, and patient education principles
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions
• Knowledge of physician office procedures and medical terminology
• Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to react calmly and effectively during emergency situations
• Ability to identify and analyze problems, prioritize, make confident quick decisions, and recommend effective solutions
• Ability to administer a variety of medications and treatments and utilize various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of nursing experience
