Mercy Rogers is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Medical Surgical unit, a 48-bed specialty unit that serves as a foundation for nursing practice. This role provides compassionate, patient-centered care to acute medical and surgical patients with diverse diagnoses and care needs.

Clinical Setting

The Med-Surg unit manages patients preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. Patient populations include those with acute conditions such as pneumonia and sepsis, as well as chronic conditions including diabetes, COPD, and chronic kidney disease. The unit supports multiple service lines including oncology, nephrology, urology, and gastroenterology. Patient acuity varies based on the generalized nature of the unit and the range of patient conditions present.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care under the supervision of a licensed provider or Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Utilize the nursing process to support assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote safe, high-quality patient outcomes
  • Maintain patient rights, confidentiality, and professional accountability
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, patient assessments, care coordination, patient education, and documentation
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to the care team
  • Participate in care planning and process improvement initiatives
  • Support a culture of safety through effective handoffs, rounding, and adherence to scope of practice standards
  • Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) as needed
  • Participate in unit-based projects, committees, and educational activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Staffing Ratio

The position operates with a 6:1 patient-to-nurse ratio.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program (or comparable education experience with successful licensure)
  • Current LPN license within the hiring state; personally responsible for obtaining and maintaining licensure and meeting all State Board of Nursing requirements

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications

One or more of the following certifications may be required based on the position or unit, or must be acquired within the specified department timeframe:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support) Six Assessment & Care Modules

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Prolonged standing and walking during each shift
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties
