Ochsner Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Medical-Surgical unit at Chabert Campus. This full-time, night shift position provides direct patient care within the framework of the Licensed Practical Nurse Act under the direction of a registered nurse. You will deliver care to assigned patients, including IV therapy, while directing and assisting ancillary nursing staff and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including IV therapy, to assigned patients
- Effectively use the nursing process through data gathering, planning, and evaluation
- Provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety criteria appropriate to patient ages
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, guests, family members, and coworkers to ensure quality patient experience
- Direct and assist ancillary nursing staff with assigned duties
- Interact with the multidisciplinary team and other personnel
- Adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner as unit and departmental needs change
- Manage personal professional development and maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials
- Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the assigned area
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards
- Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient or employee safety concerns, or privacy violations
- Perform other related duties as required
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in state of practice
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association
- Good time management and organizational skills with ability to be self-directed
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment, maintain confidential information, and work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal skills
- Delegation skills

Physical and Environmental Demands
This position requires heavy work, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area with direct patient contact and may be exposed to communicable diseases. There may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal of contaminated waste.
