Erie County Medical Center Corporation is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for full-time night shift work in long-term care. This position involves providing routine nursing care to residents in the Long-Term Care Facility, performing technical nursing tasks, and assuming charge responsibilities with minimal supervision under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or Physician.

Clinical Setting

You will work at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation Long-Term Care Facility, providing care to long-term care residents. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, Physician, or other higher-ranking professional. You may supervise Hospital/Institutional Aides as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and document medication administration, including IV infusions and IV medications
  • Perform and record vital signs and weights
  • Administer internal feedings
  • Observe, monitor, and document patient conditions in accordance with nursing standards
  • Perform EKG testing, pulse oximetry testing, and phlebotomy
  • Maintain and operate equipment used in patient care
  • Perform or assist with treatments and procedures
  • Teach and assist with patient and family health care teaching as outlined on the care plan
  • Maintain communication and report changes in resident condition to the supervising Registered Nurse
  • Report incidents to the nurse in charge
  • Provide for patient safety and comfort
  • Transport patients in acute and long-term care facilities
  • Develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel
  • Perform charge duties when necessary and as directed
  • Perform tasks normally assigned to Hospital/Institutional Aides
  • Participate in in-service education

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a course of study in a registered School of Practical Nursing approved by the New York State Education Department
  • Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment, OR possession of a limited Graduate Practical Nurse (GPN) permit at time of appointment with LPN license obtained within one year and maintained throughout duration of appointment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved ECMCC provider at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment

  • Good knowledge of basic nursing techniques
  • Good knowledge of advanced technical nursing skills
  • Good knowledge of infection control
  • Good knowledge of medication administration and pharmacology
  • Ability to apply therapeutic treatments as prescribed
  • Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Initiative and sound professional judgment
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
