This position offers an opportunity to provide direct nursing care to residents in a long-term care facility while supervising nursing assistants. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring quality care and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day nursing functions and supervise nursing assistants
- Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan shift services, programs, and activities
- Provide written and oral reports and recommendations concerning shift activities
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit or shift
- Complete and file required record-keeping forms and charts upon resident admission, transfer, and discharge
- Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physician's Order Form
- Chart nurse's notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident response
- Fill out and complete accident and incident reports and submit to the Director of Nursing as required
- Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with interdepartmental personnel and other facility departments
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis throughout the unit and shift
- Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shift duty hours
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary
- Administer professional nursing services including catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings and bandages, colostomy and drainage bag care, blood draws, massages, range of motion exercises, and care for the dying
- Monitor assigned personnel to ensure they follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information
- Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of protected health information
- Ensure all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering resident rooms
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse state license
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
- Current CPR Certification
