Advocate Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Urology department at WFBMG University Group Practice in Winston Salem. This full-time position offers a Monday-Friday schedule with no weekends or holidays, providing stable, predictable hours in an outpatient clinical setting.
You will work alongside physicians and providers to deliver patient care in a urology specialty practice. Your responsibilities will include preparing patients for exams, obtaining vital signs, documenting health information, performing laboratory procedures, assisting with clinical procedures, administering medications, and providing patient education. You will also manage specimen collection, IV therapy initiation and maintenance, suture and staple removal, catheterization, EKG, phlebotomy, and other advanced clinical tasks as appropriate to your competency level and scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and room patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and documenting pertinent health information including chief complaint, allergies, and medications
- Perform laboratory procedures such as strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection using aseptic technique and standard precautions
- Assist physicians and providers with procedures and surgeries including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy
- Administer medications under physician orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin
- Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy with pre-mixed medications as appropriate
- Provide basic patient education on tasks, skills, treatment, and self-care
- Follow through with procedure and test requests, prescription refills, new appointments, and referrals
- Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members; document and relay accurate, timely information regarding patient conditions
- Perform advanced clinical tasks including removal of sutures and staples, catheterization, audiograms, throat and nose cultures, drug screens, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, and complex wound care with demonstrated competency
- Organize and prepare exam rooms, labs, and work areas including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment
- Perform patient positioning and transporting duties requiring proper lifting and pushing/pulling technique
- Complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment, including cleaning, sterilizing, and caring for instruments
- Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and quality improvement activities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served and assess patient needs relative to age-specific requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which you practice
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days unless the department leader determines it is not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to develop rapport and maintain positive professional relationships
- Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, and electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs over the head
- Ability to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force
- Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present
- Frequent exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluid hazards
- Requirement to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed
- Ability to operate all equipment essential to perform the job

Compensation and Benefits
- Pay range: $24.10 - $36.15 per hour
- Base compensation determined by qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training
