The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics seeks a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Pediatric Allergy/Immunology program at the Batchelor Children's Research Institute in Miami, FL. This position offers the opportunity to work with children presenting with allergies and primary immunodeficiency disorders while providing family-centered patient care within a clinical research setting.
You will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse as part of an interdisciplinary team, participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. This role combines direct patient care with clinical coordination responsibilities to support the growth of the allergy and immunology clinical service.
Responsibilities
- Collect patient assessment data and notify appropriate nurses of actual or potential problems on an ongoing basis
- Record patient information concisely, accurately, and completely
- Administer medications and perform treatments and procedures as assigned
- Assist with preparation of patient materials and correspondence for communication with organizations within or outside the University
- Assist in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families
- Share responsibility for planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans
- Participate in team conferences, sharing knowledge and information with team members
- Perform more complex nursing activities as competence increases
- Communicate frequently with team leaders regarding patients' physical and mental conditions
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures
Department-Specific Functions
- Manage patient intake and attend clinics
- Call pharmacy for prescription refills
- Obtain lab results and medical records
- Prepare charts by reviewing prior orders and ensuring results are obtained
- Prepare patients and assist providers with treatments and examinations
- Coordinate with other staff for continuity of care
- Process authorizations for medicines and procedures
- Participate in all phases of education and maintain records
- Travel to other clinics for coverage as needed, in or out of the medical campus
- Maintain current credentials, licenses, and BLS certification
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
- Provide school notes and documents necessary for follow-up visits
- Implement new initiatives and work toward established goals
- Safely perform blood drawing
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid State of Florida LPN license
- BLS certification from American Heart Association only
- Ability to complete assignments accurately with attention to detail
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary

Schedule
Full-time position with flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Travel to other clinics for coverage may be required.
