Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)-School Health

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics seeks a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse to provide practical nursing care in school health clinics in Miami, FL. In this role, you will deliver first aid, perform follow-up health assessments, manage student health records, and coordinate care plans for students with medical conditions. You will work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and guardians to support student health and well-being in a school-based clinical setting.

Clinical Setting

You will work in school health clinics serving students in a school environment. The position requires availability during school hours and participation in school-related events and team conferences, some of which may be scheduled outside regular school hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid, follow-up assessments, and direct practical nursing care to students according to established clinic protocols
• Respond to students' health emergencies and perform care following standing orders within the scope of practice for Florida LPNs
• Collect patient assessment data and notify appropriate nursing staff of actual or potential problems and needs on an ongoing basis
• Record patient information concisely, accurately, and completely
• Administer medications and perform treatments and procedures as assigned
• Manage and update student health records and emergency information, inputting necessary documents into appropriate databases
• Coordinate care plans for students with medical needs, documenting in clinic databases as necessary
• Ensure vaccination compliance and communicate with parents and guardians regarding required health matters
• Maintain clinic inventory, assist with medical supply preparation and orders, discard expired supplies, and adhere to infection control standards
• Coordinate mandated health screenings and inform caregivers of results
• Assist with preparation of patient materials and correspondence that RNs, ARNPs, or MDs use to communicate with organizations
• Assist in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families
• Share responsibility for planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans
• Participate in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas with team members
• Communicate frequently with team leaders regarding students' physical and mental conditions
• Ensure a clean and organized clinic environment and report equipment or facility issues to appropriate departments
• Perform more-complex nursing activities as competence increases
• Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid State of Florida LPN license
• BLS certification from American Heart Association only
• Ability to work during school hours
• Availability to participate in school-related events and team conferences, including those scheduled outside regular school hours such as evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum one year of nursing experience
• Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
• Learning agility and ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols

• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
• Technical proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
