Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

This onsite, non-exempt Licensed Practical Nurse position is located at the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Spokane Eye Clinic, part of Prism Vision Group. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, you will provide skilled nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, utilizing assessment and evaluation techniques to plan individualized care and treatment.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an ambulatory surgery center environment. This position requires extensive mobility, walking, and standing throughout most of the workday. The role involves pushing, pulling, and lifting patients or equipment. You may have potential exposure to patients with communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess the physical status of patients through personal observation, assessment, and interaction
• Perform appropriate patient assessment and evaluation, including pertinent medical and surgical history
• Identify educational, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients
• Demonstrate knowledge of required pre-operative testing requirements and identification of surgical risks
• Understand and interpret diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams, and EKG interpretation
• Identify patient needs and communicate this information to all members of the care team
• Act as a patient advocate in the coordination of patient care
• Maintain knowledge regarding medications, anesthesia medications, and herbal therapies and associated risks
• Utilize professional nursing judgment to implement the nursing care plan and resolve identifiable issues before they become problems or incidents
• Provide appropriate and complete pre- and post-operative patient assessment, airway management, and patient monitoring
• Complete accurate and timely medical record documentation and report information efficiently
• Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care quality
• Carry out infection control and environmental safety practices
• Communicate a positive and caring attitude toward patients, peers, staff, and all other contacts
• Seek guidance, direction, and assistance when needed
• Understand and follow center policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information
• Demonstrate knowledge regarding all patient care equipment, including use and cleaning
• Maintain knowledge of supply locations and emergency procedures
• Identify goals for each individual patient and communicate these to others involved in their care
• Perform inventory validation, expiration checks, and stocking as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned that fall within your qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited practical nurse program
• Current unrestricted state practical nurse license
• BLS certification required (ACLS required only for pre-op and PACU nurses)
• Detail-oriented and well-organized
• Knowledge of privacy practices and patient bill of rights

Compensation

Compensation range: $19.94–$41.42 per hour, dependent on experience.
