The opportunity

Job Description

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis is seeking part-time Licensed Practical Nurses to provide compassionate, person-centered care for residents in a long-term skilled nursing facility. You will assist with activities of daily living, ensure safety and quality of care, and help residents attain their highest functional capabilities in an environment that promotes caring, respect, and values the individual.

Clinical Setting

The Minneapolis Veterans Home is located on a beautiful 53-acre wooded campus with nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Mississippi River. The facility provides skilled nursing care in a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. The location on Minnehaha Avenue offers convenient access to connecting highways and public transportation.

Schedule and Shifts

This is a part-time position with flexible shift options. You may choose to work:

  • Day Shift: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Evening Shift: 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Overnight Shift: 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM

Days of work vary. Qualified applicants will be considered for all shifts they indicate they are available to work.

Compensation and Bonuses

Salary range: $28.01 to $35.83 per hour, or $58,485 to $74,813 annually. New hire bonus of $2,500 is available for part-time positions represented by the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Minnesota license as a Practical Nurse with no restrictions and in good standing
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, or ability to be certified by date of hire
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and keep clear and accurate notes and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, or other senior healthcare environment
  • Experience working with Veterans
  • Effective interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships

Additional Requirements

  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists, which may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with former employers
  • Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening or chest X-ray is required prior to employment
  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on top finalists and must be passed
