Bethesda is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a full-time night shift position (7:00pm - 7:30am) in a long-term care setting. In this role, you will provide basic nursing care to geriatric residents, including admission assessments, ongoing monitoring, and implementation of individualized care plans. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to identify and address changes in resident condition, communicate with physicians using standardized protocols, and ensure safe and timely delivery of nursing interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in assessing residents on admission and on an ongoing basis
  • Communicate significant changes in resident condition to appropriate interdisciplinary team members
  • Accurately document all assessments and interventions
  • Participate in the care planning process and update care plans as needed
  • Implement nursing interventions including medication administration and treatments in a safe and timely manner
  • Administer IV fluids if IV certified
  • Use critical thinking skills when responding to changes in resident condition
  • Notify physicians in a timely manner using SBARR communication protocol
  • Monitor care delivery to ensure the care plan is being implemented effectively
  • Identify problem areas and use the QAPI process for immediate problem resolution
  • Answer call lights and assist with residents' activities of daily living as needed
  • Maintain composure during crisis situations including family dissatisfaction, staff disputes, or inclement weather
  • Complete a minimum of twelve hours of nursing-related continuing education annually
  • Remain current with best nursing practices through knowledge of Bethesda policies and self-study

Required Qualifications

  • Education from an accredited school of nursing resulting in LPN licensure
  • Current LPN license in the state where you will be working
  • CPR and AED certification required, or willingness to obtain within six months of employment
  • IV certification required, or willingness to obtain within six months of employment
  • Ability to assess basic nursing care needs of geriatric residents
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with residents, visitors, and staff
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance when necessary
  • Ability to transfer and move patients weighing 200+ pounds using proper lifting techniques and with assistance when necessary
  • Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40 pounds using proper techniques and with assistance when necessary
  • Manual dexterity, coordination, and skillful use of hands when working with patients and equipment
  • Visual acuity with the ability to distinguish color
  • Ability to perform necessary documentation electronically and in writing
