Claiborne Memorial Medical Center is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide nursing care on our Medical/Surgical Unit. In this role, you will work under the supervision of a professional nurse to deliver direct patient care, observe and report on patient conditions, assist with medication administration, and maintain accurate patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients within the assigned unit
  • Observe and report symptoms and conditions of patients
  • Assist in administering medications as prescribed by the physician and document patient reactions
  • Set up treatment trays and assist physicians with treatments and diagnostic procedures
  • Apply dressings, binders, ointments, and other therapeutic aids as prescribed
  • Maintain records reflecting patient conditions, medications, and treatments
  • Assist with personal hygiene and therapeutic measures for patients
  • Follow instructions issued by registered nurses and physicians
  • Support department operations by participating in orientation, meetings, and educational events
  • Collect data and report incidents to support performance improvement monitoring
  • Assist in managing departmental resources and equipment
  • Serve as a role model and support person for CNAs

Clinical Setting

You will work in a hospital medical/surgical unit environment. This is a float position, which means you may be assigned to work different shifts, departments, or times based on departmental needs.

Schedule and Staffing

Schedules are provided on a four-week basis. Depending on census, employee illness, and vacation requests, you may be asked to:

  • Work shifts other than your normally scheduled shifts
  • Work in departments other than your normally assigned department
  • Work times other than your normally scheduled times (including 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am shifts)
  • Take call for the unit, meaning you do not report unless notified and must be able to report within 30 minutes of notification for a typically 12-hour shift

Shift differentials and call pay rates apply when working different shifts or taking call.

Physical Demands

  • Good physical and mental health required
  • Must be able to withstand strenuous physical activity
  • Walking and/or standing approximately 80% of the day
  • Sitting approximately 20% of the day
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds (no less than 20 pounds) less than 10% of the day
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach over the head less than 10% of the day
  • Manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment
  • Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in patient condition

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in Louisiana
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
  • IV certification
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens

Required Education and Training

  • Annual restraint education
  • Annual Infection Prevention education
  • Annual training including HEAT, Ethics, and Omnicell
  • Mandatory inservices including departmental meetings
  • Monthly performance improvement participation
  • At least 10 staff meetings annually

Employee Health Requirements

  • Annual TB skin test
  • Annual flu vaccine
  • Annual employee physical (if maintaining insurance benefits)
  • Follow all Employee Health protocols

  • Adhere to dress code with neat and clean appearance
  • Wear identification while on duty
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled
  • Complete work within designated timeframe
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

  • Follow Infection Prevention guidelines including proper use of isolation precautions and PPE
