Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - 2nd & 3rd shift

The State of Ohio Department of Veterans Services is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide direct care to residents at Ohio Veterans Homes. This is a 2nd and 3rd shift position.

As an LPN, you will work as a direct care provider assisting residents with medical treatments, observing and reporting resident needs and concerns to the medical team, and serving as support between Registered Nurses and Therapeutic Program Workers (CNAs/STNAs) on the unit.

Responsibilities

• Complete physician orders and assist with exams, treatments, and specimen collection
• Administer medications, including controlled substances
• Observe and document residents' conditions in the electronic health record system
• Create necessary reports including progress notes, care plans, and monthly summaries
• Provide general nursing and direct care such as assisting with activities of daily living, vital signs, ambulation, and range of motion exercises
• Escort and support residents at medical appointments or recreational activities
• Assist with redirecting unsafe actions to promote positive outcomes
• Apply safety and infection control measures
• Provide work direction and training to Therapeutic Program Workers (STNAs) as assigned
• Attend team meetings and required trainings
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Clinical Setting

You will work at an Ohio Veterans Home providing care to veteran residents.

Schedule and Shifts

• 2nd and 3rd shift positions
• May be required to work weekends and mandatory overtime

Physical Requirements

• May be required to stand for extended periods
• May be required to lift heavy objects from time to time
• May be exposed to a variety of bodily fluids and infectious diseases from residents

Required Qualifications

• Active license to practice nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code
• Proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration
• Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code

Compensation

• Starting Hourly Pay (Step 3): $30.10 per hour ($62,608 annually)
• First raise after 6 months: increase to $31.47 per hour ($65,458 annually)
• $500 bonus after 120 days
• $500 bonus after one year
• Multiple scheduled pay increases over years of service
• Shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shift
• Longevity increases beginning at your fifth year of service

Additional Requirements

• All persons hired must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete required employment eligibility verification upon hire
• Direct deposit of paycheck is required per Section 124.151(B) of the Ohio Revised Code
