Mount Sinai Hospital's Greenwich Village Clinic is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a full-time day position. In this role, you will provide supportive and restorative nursing care to patients under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or licensed physician. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team in an outpatient clinic setting, delivering direct patient care and contributing to a patient-centered care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the nursing process and provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients, including activities of daily living (ADL)
  • Perform skilled nursing procedures including vital signs, pulse oximetry, venipuncture, peripheral IV insertion and discontinuation, urinary catheter insertion and care, and simple dressings
  • Administer IV fluids following completion of annual competency IV therapy training
  • Administer medications via all routes except IV push/bolus (except Normal Saline or heparin flush) and central lines; cannot administer first dose of IV drugs or chemotherapy/immunotherapy
  • Monitor patients receiving blood products and TPN under RN direction
  • Perform point-of-care testing including blood glucose
  • Assist in patient assessment following RN initial assessment, including pain management
  • Carry out medical and nursing orders; cannot accept verbal orders or RN standing orders
  • Make, report, and record observations on assigned patients within the electronic medical record
  • Observe and report signs and symptoms of patient condition changes
  • Participate in health teaching to patients and families following RN-developed teaching plans
  • Establish an environment that promotes physical and emotional comfort
  • Perform hourly care checks and support the patient experience in accordance with Relationship Centered Care Professional Practice Model
  • Organize supplies and equipment necessary for the plan of care
  • Contribute specified data to patients' medical records
  • Provide age-appropriate care and communication based on patient population served
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and departmental committees
  • Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
  • Participate in continuing education, workshops, in-service programs, and staff meetings
  • Demonstrate professional, courteous, and respectful attitude with patients, families, and staff
  • Provide direction and support to auxiliary staff
  • Participate in interdepartmental communication to ensure continuity of care

Clinical Setting

This position is located at the Greenwich Village Clinic Nursing department within Mount Sinai Hospital, an academic medical center in the New York metro area. You will work in an outpatient clinic environment providing care to diverse patient populations across age groups.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of educational program for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Active LPN license issued by New York State Department of Health
  • Successful completion of New York State Department of Health LPN IV Therapy Initial Program
  • Successful completion of annual unit-based review and update program in intravenous therapy procedures
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Appropriate experience in a healthcare setting

Schedule

  • Full-time, day shift position

Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $35.25
  • Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need
  • Salary does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
  • Position is part of SEIU 1199 collective bargaining unit at Mount Sinai Hospital

Additional Information

LPNs working exclusively in chronic outpatient hemodialysis settings may, under direct RN supervision and after completing approved hemodialysis training and competency, perform dialysis-related tasks as permitted by New York State Education Department regulations. This exception does not permit independent practice or unsupervised access to central venous lines.
