Cape Fear Valley Medical Center is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the 3 South Medical/Telemetry Department, a 36-bed adult medical unit. In this full-time variable position, you will provide direct nursing care to assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, with a patient ratio of 1:5.
Clinical Setting
3 South is an all-adult medical/telemetry unit operating on a track schedule. The care team includes Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians, and Occupational and Speech Therapists. New graduate nurses are accepted and welcome.
Responsibilities
- Participate in patient assessment and collaborate with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing patient care plans
- Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients following their individualized plan of care
- Adjust care based on age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or authorized personnel
- Maintain accurate and relevant records of patient care
- Administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Facilitate a safe patient environment
- Recognize life-threatening situations and respond appropriately
- Maintain required clinical competencies
- Participate in performance improvement activities and monitor quality of care
- Establish collaborative interpersonal relationships with health system staff
- Support patients in practicing their cultural and spiritual beliefs within the limits of the medical regimen
- Participate in cost containment and complete accurate charging for patient services
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in North Carolina or compact state licensure
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Experience with CPAP, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with PCA pumps
- Knowledge of age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of adult patients
- Positive interpersonal skills
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
- Visual acuity for observation of patients
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for long periods
- Ability to have skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
