Whatcom County Jail in Bellingham, WA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide nursing care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting. You will work under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians, delivering high-quality care while adhering to established standards, policies, and accreditation requirements.
Clinical Setting
This is a full-time, in-person position within a correctional facility healthcare team. You will work collaboratively with the Health Services Administrator, Director of Nursing, RNs, and other facility staff to coordinate and deliver healthcare services.
Responsibilities
- Ensure nursing processes and systems are followed according to policies, procedures, performance standards, and accreditation requirements
- Work cohesively with HSA, DON, RN(s), and other facility functions to coordinate healthcare delivery
- Use all EHR functions and applications relevant to the position independently and assist with staff training as requested
- Communicate effectively with clients, peers, and employees at all organizational levels; maintain clear communication during issue resolution
- Demonstrate professional performance based on practice standards, relevant statutes, rules, regulations, and organizational criteria
- Take and document patient history and vital signs; assist with examinations and treatments; report all changes in patient conditions
- Administer medications and document on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) in the EHR
- Perform venipuncture and IV therapy as approved by immediate supervisor
- Collect samples, specimens, and cultures as requested by provider order
- Assist with daily triage and sick call; assist with minor medical and surgical procedures; transcribe therapeutic orders from the provider
- Initiate and document prescribed protocol treatment in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Comply with continuing education requirements for the position and maintain awareness of NCCHC Standards related to continuing education
- Assist with evaluating quality and effectiveness of clinical services and developing systems to ensure and monitor patient care and safety
- Demonstrate professionalism through objectivity, self-control under pressure, emotional maturity, integrity, and promotion of a positive work environment
- Participate in all monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings as assigned and required in accordance with contract compliance
- Notify critical information to management that may negatively impact client, vendor, or patient care relations
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program
- Current, unrestricted nursing license in Washington State
- Valid CPR card
- Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in a healthcare setting

- Correctional healthcare experience
Compensation
- Pay: $41.00 - $45.00 per hour
