University Medical Associates (UMA) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a Family Medicine practice at MUSC Health's Clements Ferry location. This is a full-time, regular employee position working 40 hours per week in an ambulatory clinical setting.
You will provide quality nursing care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider, supporting patient care delivery in a family medicine practice. This role combines clinical skills, patient education, and administrative responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and high-quality patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and pertinent information; document test and exam results; communicate plan of care to patients and develop patient education materials as needed
- Observe, record, and report patients' physical and psychosocial conditions, reactions to medications and treatments to the physician
- Respond to and triage phone calls; call in orders as directed by the physician
- Instruct patients regarding treatment and medication as ordered by the physician
- Monitor and distribute medications, including samples and controlled substances
- Triage patients and prepare them for physician exams and procedures; assist with exams, procedures, and treatments as necessary
- Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests; administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered
- Maintain exam room supplies, instruments, and cleanliness of the patient care environment according to OSHA, DHEC, and UMA requirements
- Ensure accurate calibration, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical and lab equipment as required by OSHA, DHEC, and UMA standards; track maintenance through documentation
- Maintain timely patient flow; assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability
- Screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program
- Current South Carolina LPN license or compact state license
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
Experience
For LPN I positions: No prior patient care experience required.
For LPN II positions: Six months of patient care experience required.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. You must be able to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, and reach in all directions. Full use of both hands and legs is required, along with good finger dexterity and the ability to perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
You will frequently lift, lower, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, exert up to 50 pounds of force, and lift objects weighing 25 pounds from 36 inches to overhead. You must maintain corrected vision of at least 20/40, see and recognize objects both close at hand and at a distance, and be able to work in a latex-safe environment. You must be qualified for respirator use, both initially and as required. Infrequent work in dusty areas and confined or cramped spaces may be required.
