The opportunity

Job Description

Memorial Health System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Belpre Medical Oncology clinic. This full-time position works 40 hours biweekly and focuses on supporting patients' medical and nursing plans of care in a continuous quality improvement environment.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an outpatient medical oncology clinic, providing direct patient care and supporting chemotherapy administration and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of patient care and non-patient care within scope of practice
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation
  • Perform glucometer blood sugar testing as patient condition dictates
  • Perform peripheral venipuncture for lab draws following successful training and validation
  • Obtain and enter current patient data into the EMR, including meaningful use measures, patient history updates, and clinic summary notes for each visit
  • Complete medication reconciliation with each clinic visit
  • Perform chart checks in preparation for patient clinic visits
  • Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and oral medications as prescribed by the provider
  • Provide thorough chemotherapy instruction including resources to patients and obtain informed consent prior to scheduled chemotherapy administration
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of prescribed oral chemotherapy agents and associated supportive medications
  • Submit prescriptions following provider authorization and ensure all non-electronically submitted prescriptions are entered into Mosaiq to maintain an up-to-date medication record
  • Consult social services for patients with elevated psychosocial distress screens
  • Obtain OARRS reporting as requested by ordering providers
  • Obtain external diagnostic results including biomolecular testing, pathology, and previous clinical history prior to provider visits
  • Generate QCL to authorization staff prior to scheduling any patient treatments or diagnostic studies
  • Respond to patient nurseline requests promptly and document resolution on the established QCL or in nurse summary notes
  • Serve as a liaison to the provider to limit unnecessary interruptions to workflow
  • Follow established processes for acquisition, inventory, and dispensing of sample medications
  • Participate in community education and health screenings as assigned
  • Maintain a clean and orderly clinic environment including up-to-date patient educational materials
  • Maintain compliance in RQI
  • Comply with all safety and infection control standards
  • Complete required competencies

Required Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio, or a West Virginia license if working in WV
  • N.A.P.N.E.S., O.O.P.N.E., or State Board of Nursing medication administration card
  • BLS certification
  • Verbal, clerical, and numerical abilities
  • Manual dexterity, color vision, and near visual acuity

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 40 hours biweekly
