Atrium Health Myers Park is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a full-time position in Internal Medicine. In this role, you will provide direct patient care in a clinic setting, supporting physicians and providers while delivering quality care to adult patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and room patients for examination by obtaining vital signs and documenting or updating pertinent health information including chief complaint, allergies, and current medications
  • Perform laboratory procedures such as strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection using aseptic technique and standard precautions
  • Assist physicians and providers with clinical procedures including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, and other procedures
  • Administer medications under physician orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy with pre-mixed medications as appropriate within scope of practice
  • Provide basic patient education on treatment, self-care, and procedure performance
  • Follow through with procedure and test requests, prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referrals to other facilities or services
  • Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members, documenting and relaying accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks with demonstrated competency and clinical supervision, including suture and staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, throat and nose cultures, drug screening, phlebotomy, venous access, heel sticks, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, and complex wound care
  • Organize and prepare exam rooms, lab areas, and work spaces by cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment, including appropriate cleaning, sterilizing, and care of instruments
  • Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and quality improvement activities
  • Provide age-appropriate care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan

Required Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which you practice
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days of hire unless the department leader determines it is not required
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to develop rapport and maintain positive professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds over the head, and carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance. You must be able to push or pull with 30 pounds of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present.

You will be exposed on a frequent basis to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluid hazards and will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed. You must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with the ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. You will operate all equipment essential to perform the job.
