Licensed Practical Nurse - Atrium Health BiddlePoint FM Full-time

Atrium Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for our Family Medicine clinic at Carolinas Medical Center - Biddlepoint. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, in a fast-paced outpatient clinic setting serving patients of all ages.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a family medicine clinic environment, supporting physicians and providers in delivering comprehensive primary care services. The clinic handles a wide range of patient needs, from routine preventive care to minor procedures and diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and room patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and documenting or updating pertinent health information, including chief complaint, allergies, and current medications
• Perform laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and standard precautions, including strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection
• Assist physicians and providers with clinical procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, and other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
• Administer medications under physician or provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin
• Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy with pre-mixed medications as directed
• Provide basic patient education on treatment, self-care, and procedure performance
• Follow through with procedure and test requests, prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referrals to other facilities or services
• Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members, documenting and relaying accurate and timely information regarding patient conditions
• Perform advanced clinical tasks with demonstrated competency and clinical supervision, including suture and staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, throat and nose cultures, drug screening, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, and complex wound care
• Organize and prepare exam rooms, lab areas, and work spaces by cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment
• Perform patient positioning and transporting duties, utilizing proper lifting and body mechanics techniques
• Complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment, including appropriate cleaning, sterilization, and care of instruments
• Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and quality improvement activities
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served, including understanding of growth and development across the lifespan

Required Qualifications

• Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which you practice
• Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days of hire unless your department leader determines it is not required
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians
• Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
• Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, and electronic mail, with exposure to electronic medical records systems

Experience

No prior nursing experience is required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above your shoulders throughout the workday. You must be able to:

• Lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist
• Lift up to 20 pounds over your head
• Carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance
• Push or pull with 30 pounds of force
• Perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person present

You will be frequently exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluid hazards and will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed. You must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with the ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. You will operate all equipment essential to perform the job.

Schedule and Compensation

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. The pay range is $24.10 to $36.15 per hour, based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training.
