Licensed Practical Nurse-AMB CARE SERV - Clinic-New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai-Full Time, Days, Rotating Weekends:

New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Ambulatory Care Services Clinic. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule with rotating weekends. You will provide supportive and restorative care, administer medications, and perform specialized nursing tasks under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or licensed physician.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Participate in the nursing process for an assigned group of patients
• Perform skilled nursing care tasks including vital signs, pulse oximetry, venipuncture, and insertion of standard peripheral IVs
• Insert and care for urinary catheters and perform simple dressing changes
• Remove and discontinue peripheral lines
• Administer IV fluids following completion of annual competency IV therapy training
• Monitor patients receiving blood products and TPN under RN direction
• Administer medications via all routes except IV push/bolus (except Normal Saline or heparin flush) and central lines; cannot administer chemotherapy or immunotherapy
• Note: RNs administer the first dose of IV drugs; LPNs may administer subsequent doses after RN assessment
• Perform point-of-care testing including blood glucose
• Assist in patient assessment after the RN completes the initial assessment, including pain management
• Carry out medical and nursing orders (cannot accept verbal orders or RN standing orders)
• Participate in health teaching to patients and families following the RN's teaching plan
• Perform hourly care checks and support the patient experience
• Make, report, and record observations on assigned patients within the EMR
• Observe and report any signs and symptoms of change in patient condition
• Organize supplies and equipment necessary for the plan of care
• Contribute specified data to patients' medical records

Patient Care

• Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living (ADL)
• Establish an environment that promotes optimum physical and emotional comfort
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served, including age-specific communication techniques and care modifications
• Support the patient experience to achieve safe and quality care

Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in the Nursing Department Quality Improvement Program and activities
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Participate in patient care conferences
• Maintain nursing care standards through participation in workshops, in-service programs, and staff meetings
• Maintain competence through continuing education
• Demonstrate professional, courteous, and respectful attitude with patients, families, and hospital staff
• Provide direction, assistance, and support to auxiliary staff
• Participate in interdepartmental communication to provide continuity of care
• Participate in departmental committees as assigned
• Adhere to Mount Sinai Health System legal and ethical standards
• Adapt to changing departmental needs and manage time to meet unit/department needs
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Completion of educational program for licensure as an LPN
• Current New York State LPN license
• Successful completion of New York State Department of Health LPN IV Therapy Initial Program
• Successful completion of annual unit-based review and update program in IV therapy procedures
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Heartsaver certification from the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Appropriate experience in a healthcare setting

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position
• Day shift with rotating weekends
• Hourly rate: $34.64 - $39.84
• Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
