This full-time position offers Licensed Practical Nurses the opportunity to work in acute physical rehabilitation under the supervision of Registered Nurses. You will provide direct patient care, administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, and support comprehensive nursing assessments for medical-surgical patients on the night shift.
Clinical Setting
You will work in an acute physical rehabilitation unit providing care to medical-surgical patients. The role emphasizes collaboration with Registered Nurses and participation in hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting.
Responsibilities
- Appraise client status and contribute to comprehensive assessment by the RN
- Support ongoing data collection and participate in planning individualized care plans
- Implement appropriate aspects of care within LPN scope of practice
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and blood therapy following hospital policy and procedure
- Recognize and respond to medication reactions and report errors to the RN promptly
- Perform focal assessments in coordination with the Registered Nurse
- Provide direct basic care to assigned patients in an organized and efficient manner
- Respond to patient and family needs and questions in a timely manner
- Keep patients and families informed prior to, during, and after treatments and procedures
- Use supplies and equipment appropriately and document charges accurately
- Identify and report normal and abnormal signs and symptoms in physiological and psychosocial status
- Document observations, treatments, nursing interventions, and patient responses accurately and completely
- Reinforce teaching plans for patients with common health problems and well-defined learning needs
- Comply with infection control, safety, and hospital policies
- Follow HIPAA guidelines to prevent unauthorized disclosure of protected health information
- Participate in hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting
- Participate in unit quality improvement and report problems to management
- Attend 80% of prescribed in-service programs and departmental meetings
- Seek out new learning experiences and identify areas for professional development
- Contribute to a clinical education environment for nursing and healthcare students

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a State Board accredited Practical School of Nursing or equivalent
- Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Louisiana upon hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Reliable attendance with no unexcused absences and no more than three unscheduled absences
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of nursing experience
