The opportunity

Job Description

This position is a lead-level Licensed Practical Nurse role at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute in Nashville, serving patients in a mental health and substance abuse services setting. You will work under general supervision, leading technical nursing staff while providing direct patient care and performing nursing duties of average difficulty.

Clinical Setting

This is an on-site position at Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute, a state facility operated by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. You may be assigned to work days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the application of nursing techniques required in care and treatment of patients
  • Advise subordinate staff in policies and procedures
  • Perform BLS (Basic Life Support) and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and respond to other emergencies
  • Follow prescribed health care plans or protocols, take patient vital signs, and administer medication
  • Educate patients and caregivers on maintaining optimal health status, including self-care such as dressing changes, self-examinations, activities of daily living, and use of adaptive equipment
  • Document assessments, care, and education provided to patients
  • Document orders followed, medical interventions, completed tests and results, and administration and effectiveness of drugs
  • Discuss patients' comprehensive health plans with other staff to identify patient and client needs
  • Provide education to employees and others
  • Maintain adequate, current, and secure inventory of health care supplies and report discrepancies
  • Ensure medical equipment and designated work areas are kept clean and serviceable
  • Report maintenance problems or repairs needed on equipment
  • Communicate with internal and external entities

Required Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as a practical nurse with the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
  • Experience equivalent to two years of licensed practical nursing
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license may be required

Driver Requirements

State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license
  • For the past five years, your driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations

  • Annual salary: $38,748.00 - $58,224.00
