The opportunity

Job Description

Ochsner Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as the School Nurse at Isidore Newman School. This position provides nursing care within a school system setting, working Monday through Friday from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. You will administer nursing care to students, ensuring their health, comfort, and safety while utilizing the Nursing Process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Administer nursing care within the school system
  • Assess student health needs and implement appropriate nursing interventions
  • Evaluate and implement student care plans
  • Assess learning needs and implement teaching strategies appropriate for diverse student populations
  • Use data and information to evaluate and promote change to achieve optimal health outcomes
  • Maintain accurate patient and student health records
  • Perform other related duties as required

Clinical Setting

You will work directly with students in a school-based healthcare environment. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. There is occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and potentially hazardous medications or waste within the healthcare setting.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Physical demand requirements exceed those for sedentary work. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state of practice
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Registered Nurse Diploma
  • Computer skills and proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
