Job Description

Speare Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in New Hampshire's Lakes Region, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible interventional radiologist to provide per diem interventional radiology services. This position is dedicated exclusively to performing image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures in support of the hospital's patient care services.

This role does not include responsibility for interpreting, reading, or providing diagnostic reports for routine radiographic or other diagnostic imaging studies. Diagnostic image interpretation remains the responsibility of separately designated radiology coverage. Any interpretation of imaging necessary to plan, perform, or safely complete an interventional procedure remains within your procedural responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and urgent image-guided interventional radiology procedures consistent with your training, experience, and hospital-approved clinical privileges
  • Perform procedures such as ultrasound-guided biopsies, fine-needle aspirations, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other approved image-guided procedures based on hospital clinical needs and your competencies
  • Evaluate patients before procedures, including reviewing relevant clinical information, laboratory results, imaging findings, and indications for intervention
  • Obtain informed consent and discuss the risks, benefits, alternatives, and expected outcomes of procedures with patients or their authorized representatives
  • Provide appropriate procedural documentation, post-procedure instructions, and recommendations for follow-up care
  • Recognize and manage procedural complications and coordinate escalation or transfer when clinically indicated
  • Ensure appropriate communication of significant findings or complications to the referring provider and care team
  • Comply with hospital policies, medical staff bylaws, clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, radiation safety requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and other clinical performance improvement activities as required
  • Support appropriate patient selection, procedural safety checks, and continuity of care before and after procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the hospital's electronic health record and other required systems
  • Coordinate with Radiology leadership and departmental staff regarding procedure scheduling, equipment requirements, patient preparation, and procedural workflow
  • Collaborate with referring physicians to determine the appropriateness of requested procedures and establish appropriate follow-up plans
  • Maintain professional communication with patients, families, hospital staff, and referring providers

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited diagnostic radiology residency and appropriate fellowship training or equivalent documented qualifications and experience in interventional radiology
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology with appropriate interventional radiology training and demonstrated procedural competency
  • Current, unrestricted New Hampshire medical license
  • Current BLS and/or ACLS certification as required by hospital policy and the procedures performed
  • Current DEA registration as applicable to the scope of practice
  • Ability to perform the physical and technical requirements of interventional procedures, including appropriate use of procedural imaging equipment and personal protective equipment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to procedural emergencies and complications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and multidisciplinary clinical teams
  • Eligibility for appointment to the Speare Memorial Hospital Medical Staff and approval for the specific clinical privileges required
