Join UMass Memorial Health as a Registered Nurse in our New Graduate Residency Program, designed to support newly licensed nurses transitioning from student practice to professional nursing. This position is based in the Adult Acute Care unit (2N IP) and provides comprehensive orientation and mentorship to help you build a strong foundation in clinical nursing practice.
This is a 12-week residency program featuring robust, evidence-based orientation with 1:1 preceptorship support. You will work alongside an experienced nursing preceptor to develop competency in patient care delivery, clinical assessment, and professional nursing practice.
Clinical Setting
You will work in an adult acute care inpatient setting at UMass Memorial Health, a premier health system in Central Massachusetts with over 20,000 employees.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to deliver and manage patient care from admission through discharge
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments according to standard procedures
- Develop and coordinate individual plans of care, including discharge planning
- Direct, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care within the assigned clinical setting
- Delegate appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level
- Document patient care according to standard procedures
- Develop, implement, and coordinate education plans for patients, families, and significant others
- Ensure quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other healthcare providers
- Administer medications, perform treatments and therapies, and operate equipment according to policy and procedure
- Assist physicians with treatments, procedures, and special tests as required or directed
- Participate in and support nursing governance activities
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and assist in education and development of staff
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate the use of quality improvement in daily operations
- Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
- Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- 40 hours per week
- Every third holiday (Monday through Friday)
- Every third weekend
- Mixed shift rotation
Required Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts RN licensure and registration
- Completion of an accredited school of nursing program
- BLS certification (or current ACLS certification in addition to BLS)
- Thorough knowledge of the discipline of nursing
- Unit-specific certifications and competencies as required
Physical Demands
Work is considered medium intensity. The position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment.
Compensation
A signing bonus may be available. Eligibility will be confirmed during the interview process.
Orientation and Support
This residency program provides robust orientation incorporating evidence-based educational strategies to prepare and support your successful transition from student nurse to newly licensed professional nurse. You will receive 1:1 support from a nursing preceptor throughout the 12-week program.
