Bristol Hospital and Health Care is seeking a General Services Attendant for the Operating Room on a per diem basis. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of support duties within a patient care setting, including cleaning, disinfecting, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients. You will respond to customer requests at a level commensurate with the position.
Responsibilities
- Empty full soiled linen bags, replace with clean bags, and prepare full bags for pick up or dispose down linen chutes
- Make unoccupied beds and assist with making occupied beds
- Stock supplies such as water pitchers and clean patient linen in patient rooms
- Stock floors with bathroom supplies and cups to established par levels; ensure cleaning chemicals and equipment are appropriately stocked for assigned work areas
- Clean and disinfect occupied patient rooms and isolation rooms in assigned areas according to established procedures
- Clean and disinfect offices, exam rooms, public and private lavatories, lounges, utility rooms, halls, stairways, elevators, floors, furniture, windows, and doors according to established procedures
- Clean and disinfect hospital equipment as assigned according to established procedures
- Identify and complete discharge cleaning and bed making of patient rooms according to hospital discharge procedures; complete emergency discharge cleaning and bed making as required
- Operate various types of equipment including buffers, burnishers, automatic scrubbers, mops, vacuums, wall washing equipment, and carpet extractors according to established procedures
- Refinish floors, shampoo and vacuum carpeting, buff and burnish floors, and wash walls and ceilings according to established procedures
- Clean and disinfect Operating Rooms as assigned according to established procedures
- Empty trash and replace liners in waste receptacles including medical waste in assigned areas; disinfect receptacles according to established procedures
- Collect and remove trash, medical waste, and hazardous materials from assigned areas and deliver to holding areas for final disposal
- Clean hazardous material spills as assigned according to established procedures
- Participate as a member of the disaster response team to decontaminate patients as assigned and according to established procedures
- Detect and report defective materials, equipment, and items that could present unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision
- Follow all rules and regulations related to handling medical and hazardous waste, including wearing proper personal protective equipment
- Mix chemicals properly and use them in a manner consistent with manufacturer instructions
- Follow all rules and regulations related to Universal Precautions and other safety rules
- Transport patients throughout the hospital including those related to admission, discharge, testing, and transfer
- Lift and transport equipment and furniture to various areas of the hospital; transport medical and other records to permanent storage or other areas as instructed
- Assist in lifting, moving, and positioning patients; assist with patient ambulation as required
- Set up and break down furniture for various meetings and deliver and remove items needed such as televisions, VCRs, projectors, easels, and flip charts
- Complete prepared forms to report specific tasks accomplished, such as moving equipment
- Maintain proper levels of attendance and punctuality
- Follow verbal and written directions
- Attend mandatory inservice education and maintain standards for competencies annually
- Attend all General Services Attendant update training and hazardous material training annually and pass associated tests
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is desired but not necessary
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills as required to complete a skills survey during orientation
