Join UPMC Presbyterian as a Patient Care Technician on our 11 East/West Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation unit, a 20-bed specialty unit serving patients from all clinical backgrounds. You will provide direct patient care and support services to patients recovering from trauma, stroke, cardiovascular conditions (including LVAD patients), general debility, and organ transplants (heart, lung, kidney, liver, and abdominal visceral). Our unit is designated a Stroke Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission. Patients admitted to our rehabilitation program must be able to tolerate 3 hours of intense daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy. You will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to help patients achieve their highest level of function.
Responsibilities
- Deliver routine patient care and support services following established policies and procedures
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning, and blood glucose monitoring
- Take vital signs, perform simple dressings, 12-lead EKGs, bladder scans, and collect specimens
- Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with the healthcare team
- Ensure patient and workplace safety, demonstrate professionalism, and maintain productive relationships
- Provide patient care, support therapies, and assist with instruction under RN guidance
- Adhere to all policies, safety standards, and document patient information appropriately
- Complete tasks in a timely manner, including clerical functions as needed
- Work under the direction of nurses and physicians to maintain high-quality patient care
Schedule
- Full-time position with rotating shifts including daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts
- 12-hour shifts with the possibility of a mix of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts
- Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- CPR certification based on AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration components) required within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34 clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program
- ACLS certification
- Nursing student who has completed one clinical rotation
- Successful completion of appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations

Job title and salary are based upon qualifications and career ladder requirements. The entry-level hourly rate is $19.40.
