Float School Nurse RN-Full-Time During School Year

This full-time position provides school nursing services during the academic year, with flexibility to float between schools to meet departmental needs. You will support student health and well-being by providing triage, treatment, and first aid for ill or injured students, creating individualized healthcare plans when warranted, and removing health-related barriers to learning. You will work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and students to promote optimal health outcomes and educational success.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality triage, treatment, and first aid for students who are ill or injured
• Create and maintain individualized healthcare plans based on student health needs
• Administer medications safely using proper patient identifiers and maintain accurate records
• Ensure mandated immunizations and testing are completed and documented annually
• Provide student and parent education on health topics as indicated
• Implement established protocols approved by the medical director
• Maintain knowledge of current pharmacology and vital signs interpretation
• Practice universal precautions, fall prevention, and safe patient mobilization
• Manage supplies and equipment efficiently to promote cost savings
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in a non-judgmental manner
• Maintain confidentiality and professional use of personal electronic devices
• Disseminate health information to school personnel with legitimate educational interest per regulation
• Float to different schools or events for short- or long-term assignments as needed
• Provide direction to non-licensed and licensed practical nurses as assigned
• Maintain competency through routine clinical practice
• Participate in professional development including conferences, in-services, webinars, and seminars
• Serve as a role model and resource for school staff

Required Qualifications

• Active Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education licensure as a Registered Nurse
• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with an Associate in Nursing Degree minimum
• Minimum two years of experience in a health field relating to school-age children or previous school nursing experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN)

Schedule

• Full-time during the school year
• Day shift
• 28.4 scheduled weekly hours
• Flexibility to float between schools as needed

Additional Requirements

• Area-specific required education may be obtained upon hire and must be maintained
• Willingness to work on a floating basis to support multiple school locations
