Float Pool Registered Nurse I- FT/Nights

This is a full-time Float Pool Registered Nurse position working 3 shifts per week on nights with weekend availability required. You will be assigned to various acute care units within your designated float pool cluster based on your competency, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and Behavioral Health units. As a Float Pool RN I, you will deliver comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care across diverse acute care settings while maintaining professional nursing standards and regulatory compliance.

You will be responsible for the full scope of nursing care including patient assessments, care coordination, medication administration, wound care, and patient education. You will work closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, house supervisors, and nursing directors to ensure safe staffing and optimal patient outcomes. Your role requires flexibility, critical thinking, and the ability to quickly adapt to different clinical environments and patient populations.

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position: 3 shifts per week
• Night shifts with 12-hour shift length
• Weekend availability required
• Paid overtime after 8 hours
• Base rate: $44.28 – $65.10 per hour
• Average rate with overtime: $51.66 – $75.95 per hour
• Sign-on/Retention Bonus: $10,000 (full-time only)

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care across assigned acute care units including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, and PACU as assigned
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process (ADPIE)
• Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs
• Administer medications accurately according to physician orders and facility policies
• Monitor patients' vital signs and report adverse reactions to medications in a timely manner
• Conduct comprehensive wound assessments and implement evidence-based wound care plans, including negative pressure wound therapy and other specialized dressings
• Monitor EKG output on telemetry units and keep physicians informed of any changes
• Assess and provide care for pre- and post-operative patients in PACU settings
• Accurately document all assessments, care delivery, medications, treatments, and patient responses in the electronic medical record
• Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, post-surgery care, medications, treatment instructions, and wound care techniques
• Maintain and update patient files, medical charts, and health records
• Coordinate patient care across disciplines including transfers, discharges, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support
• Triage patients appropriately using the ESI (Emergency Severity Index) system
• Perform daily equipment checks including monitors, code equipment, crash carts, and oxygen cylinders
• Stock assigned rooms and maintain clean work areas
• Use AIDET principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) in all patient and family interactions
• Utilize SBAR communication (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with physicians and other healthcare team members
• Arrive prepared to receive patient report on time
• Speak up to stop the line and escalate potential safety events as necessary
• Act with urgency and appropriate prioritization in patient care delivery
• Stabilize patients by coordinating with medical staff, EMS, coworkers, patients, and family members
• Comply with HIPAA regulations and patient rights policies
• Attend and complete monthly, annual, and assigned training
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience in a float pool unit in your area of expertise
• Active RN (Registered Nurse) license
• AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Competency to float to Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and/or Behavioral Health units
• Critical thinking and service excellence skills

• Ability to follow verbal instructions
• PC (computer) skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a float pool unit
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher degree in Nursing
• MAB Tier II certification
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• In-depth knowledge of best practices in your specialty area
